School PC Deployment

School PC Deployment Project

School PC Deployment Project

The supply and instalment of 100 Lenovo Tiny PCs at a school in West Bromwich

The Challenge

With rising energy costs and an ever growing pressure to act on our green initiatives, the team at Vibrant Networks knew exactly how to help a local school address these issues.

Previously, the school was struggling for space with larger form factor, energy wasting desktop PCs. Due to them taking up space on the desks, a number were placed on the floor; this put them at risk of accidental damage from students.

Due to the disorganised placement of the old PCs, wires would get tangled, ports would get broken, and students would be able to pull out plugs from the system.

If the school decided to go for regular, larger-sized PCs, setup time would be longer due to the excessive packaging waste needed to transport the hardware. This takes away valuable time for both students and teachers who need the classroom.

Vibrant Networks set up a PC deployment project for the school to fix this issue.

The Solution

Under the support and guidance of the Vibrant team, a local school in West Bromwich recently made the switch to Lenovo’s Tiny PCs in an attempt to lower energy usage and save desk space in the school.

Due to the nature of the PCs, they use smaller power supplies, and need less energy to run efficiently. This means that, not only are the PCs conserving space in classrooms, but are also lowering energy usage in the school (as well as driving energy costs down!).

After suggesting the solution to the school, Vibrant Networks managed the PC deployment, and expertly installed 100 Lenovo Tiny PCs in the classrooms.

Advantages

  • PC can be attached to the back of the monitor
  • Wires are compact and pupils cannot reach them
  • Less space is used up, and all laptops can fit comfortably on the desks
  • Desktop is securely attached on the back of the monitor
  • Uses less energy
  • Quicker setup time: there's less packaging to spend time disposing of, and the lightweight hardware allows easy manoeuvrability.

Debunking Common Misconceptions:

  • There are not enough ports on the back of the machine; with four USB ports, two display ports, one VGA, one serial, one network, and one charging port, the PCs most certainly have enough ports for a high level of usability.
  • The PC will not fit my monitor; if the monitor has a VESA Mount screw, the PC will definitely fit (either way, that's our job! With Vibrant Networks, we'll sort the planning and installation of the PCs).
  • The PC does not have room for a DVD Drive; the caddy in the picture below can be used. It also has an integrated DVD under desk mount.
