We overhauled the network to a Birmingham based supermarket

The Challenge
A Birmingham based supermarket was experiencing ongoing connectivity issues, with Wi-Fi frequently dropping across the site. This created disruption for staff, in store systems, and operational technology in a busy retail environment.

The existing infrastructure used Ubiquiti Wi-Fi access points managed via a local Cloud Key rather than a cloud hosted controller. As the business grew, the network struggled to reliably support 25 users and more than 120 connected devices, including POS systems, CCTV, barcode scanners and back-office applications. The network also supported 4 V Lans consisting of tills, CCTV, Wi-Fi and guest Wi-fi networks.

To stabilise operations and improve cyber security, the supermarket required a resilient 1GB Leased Line and an enterprise grade firewall. Our solution we recommended was suitable for the Retail IT and Supermarket IT environment in their Birmingham store.

The Solution

Vibrant Networks designed and delivered a network and security upgrade to support performance, scalability, and reliability for the retail environment.

Our engineers spent a full day preparing, installing, and testing the new infrastructure on a live network to ensure minimal disruption. The solution included:
  • Installation of a 1GB Leased Line, delivering fast, dedicated connectivity suitable for high demand retail operations
  • Deployment of a Zyxel Firewall (USG 500 Flex) to provide advanced threat protection and network control
  • Migration to Ubiquiti Cloud-Controlled Wi-Fi, enabling centralised management and improved wireless stability
The new solution delivered seamless coverage across the entire supermarket, including the shop floor, stockrooms, CCTV systems, and the core data network.

This infrastructure provides a secure foundation for ongoing Cyber Security and future technology growth within the supermarket.
